ELECTRONICS INTERNATIONAL’S PROBES ARE

SUPERIOR TO JPI’S IN EVERY WAY

horizontal rule

UNBEATABLE QUALITY, COMPLETELY BUILT IN OUR BEND, OREGON PLANT!

In order to maintain the highest quality standards for which we’re well known, we do all manufacturing in our own plant, with supervision of and attention to every detail in every process. We’ve learned a great deal in over 20 years of manufacturing EGT probes and systems. Any time an EGT probe has failed, we’ve dissected it and thoroughly evaluated it to find out why. We believe over a course of years, we’ve developed the best and most bulletproof EGT probe available anywhere. We’re so genuinely surprised if one of our probes fails that we ask for the probe to be sent back to us. We then evaluate it for the cause of the failure. We nearly always find out it was an installation issue. We know probe durability is an extremely important part of whether a manufacturer’s instrument will be a welcome addition to a panel or a pain in the neck because of down time due to burned out probes. You’ll enjoy flying with our instruments and probes.

GUARANTEED TO NOT BURN OUT!

E.I.’s probes are a perfect blend of superior reliability and excellent response time. Our probes will not burn out, yet we have not compromised response time. E.I.’s probes are ungrounded, rather than the typical grounded probes. This means greater reliability, better accuracy and a much longer probe life. Just as important, our more robust probes can be mounted closer to the exhaust port than JPI's small-tipped probes without burning out. An EGT probe which is mounted closer to the exhaust port will do a SIGNIFICANTLY better job at picking up temperature changes, which means you’ll have a more exact and immediate picture of what’s going on in your engine. A good analogy is if you put your hand right up to a blow dryer to feel the temperature, your hand will feel a burning sensation. If you hold your hand further away, you’ll feel a lukewarm breeze. Which would be the most accurate gauge of the air temperature coming out of the blow dryer?

Closer to the source is much more accurate! JPI's very tiny, pencil-tip probe will burn up if mounted too close to the exhaust port. And no matter where JPI's thin probe is mounted on an exhaust stack, its life will absolutely be shorter than a more robust probe. Probe life is directly related to the size of the probe. E.I.’s EGT probes can be mounted for the most accurate temperature readings, and will NOT BURN UP!

FAST RESPONSE SINGLE-POINT GROUNDED SYSTEM!

E.I. manufactures an ungrounded probe, which eliminates ground loops and jumpy readings, which may exist in JPI's Probes. With E.I.’s instruments, there’s no need to ground your instrument in the engine compartment. In order to eliminate jumpy readings JPI recommends switching the display to 10 degree resolution. If you need to switch to 10 degree resolution, you have now CONSIDERABLY slowed down your instrument’s response time and you won’t get the 1 degree resolution you paid for. No other bar graph manufacturer offers the stability, accuracy and reliability that E.I. offers with its ungrounded probes.

E.I.’s system is well known for providing a stable 1 degree resolution, which is OVER TEN TIMES FASTER than JPI's gauge operating in the 10° resolution mode! Although JPI advertises that their gauges offer 1 degree resolution, you may find out that in order to eliminate a jumpy display you have to actually set the gauge for 10 degree resolution; not exactly what you thought you were paying for! A gauge that can only offer a steady display at a 10 degree resolution can only show a temperature change after your engine has made a 10 degree temperature change. E.I.’s instrument will show trend, degree by degree. Side by side, you’d see an E.I. instrument change ten times before a 10-degree resolution gauge could show ONE CHANGE! When you’re fine tuning during precision leaning, when you’re looking for trend information, and when you’re paying for a precision instrument, 10 degree resolution is coarse and totally unacceptable. You need quick response time in the instrument or it doesn’t matter how tiny and responsive the probe is. JPI tries hard to push its "fast response probe" but they fail to mention how slow their instrument is at 10 degrees resolution. If set for 10 degree resolution, JPI's gauge is going to dramatically slow down total system response time (combination of instrument and probe response time). No matter how it’s portrayed and how many magic shows JPI produces to convince you otherwise, don’t be fooled. Facts are facts. A slow instrument is going to significantly slow down system response time. Period. So much for JPI's "fast response" thin probes.

UNGROUNDED PROBES ALLOW FOR EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION . . . AND THIS IS IMPORTANT!

A thermocouple is when two dissimilar metals are joined together. This causes a small micro voltage to be generated. When temperature is added, the micro voltage being sent to the instrument changes. Unfortunately, different metals contract and expand at different rates. JPI manufactures grounded probes, which lock together the metals in the probe tip. This "locking together" of the metals does not allow for any movement when the metals expand and contract during temperatures changes in the engine. This causes the metals in their probe tips to work against each other, which can cause fracturing of the probe tip at the weld. This means a probe failure! E.I.’s ungrounded probes allow for this slight movement during expansion and contraction. E.I.’s probes are also the only probes sold with a bar graph instrument which have a "pure" thermocouple junction. JPI’s grounded probes add a third metal to the weld, which could cause erroneous temperature readings. E.I.’s ungrounded probes provide superior accuracy. More accurate, more durable, more reliable . . . E.I.’s probes are the best probes available anywhere!

Whether it’s in our probes, our instruments or our customer service, Electronics International’s dedication to quality, reliability and integrity always shines through.
